The short film “Saranghae My Tutor” by Victor Villanueva has been selected for the Cinemanila Young Cinema Shorts Competition which will be held at Market Market, Taguig on Nov. 11 to 17.
This romantic comedy tells the story of Benjamin Fructuso Pilapil (played by Ozzie Ouano), a lonely guy who earns money by teaching English language to Koreans who come to the Philippines. He works in an ESL Academy in Cebu, where he meets Mi Ok (played by Dongim “Serena” Kim), a beautiful Korean girl who will turn his world upside down.
I love how timely the plot of this movie is, with the current fascination of Filipinos for everything Korean and the influx of Koreans to the Philippines. Hopefully, this would highlight the connection between Korea and the Philippines even more. It’s also interesting how it compares the language of love with learning a second language. Based on the premise alone, I think the movie is well thought out and may have potential for commercial appeal. So I’m really looking forward to watching this.
Thanks to Saranghae my tutor for the photos.
