The 2011 High-Level Forum International Essay Contest was launched in preparation for the Fourth High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness to be held at Busan, Korea on Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

With the theme, “Visions of Youth on Effective Aid & Development”, the essay writing competition aims to provide an avenue for the youth to share their perspective on better aid and development. This contest is open to the youth from all over the world.

The essay must be written by only one person aged 18 to 32 (by Dec. 1). It must be in English and must be within 2000 words. It must also come with a cover page containing the essay title, name of the writer, address, contact number, e-mail address, nationality, age as of Dec. 1, gender, school name (if applicable), and word count of the essay.

Do note that the essay must be original and unpublished. Copyright to the material will be assigned to the event organizers. All entries must be submitted on or before October 7 to hlf4_essay@mofat.go.kr

There will be 1 first prize winner who will receive a certificate and $2,000. There will also be 2 second prize winners who will get a certificate and $1,000. Finally, there will be 5 third place winners who will each be entitled to a certificate and $200. The first and second place winners will also be invited to the Youth Forum which will be held during the HLF4. Travel expenses and accomodations will be taken care of by the Korean government.

      No specific date for the announcement of winners has been announced by the contest organizer. They were quite overwhelmed by the number of entries submitted since they received 765 essays from 100 countries.

      Here is their latest post on their Facebook page regarding the contest:

      “Dear entrants to the HLF-4 essay contest,

      The results will be coming soon. With so many high quality entries, it’s taking a little longer than planned to pick the winners!”
