Under the agreement, the Philippines will be borrowing up to US$ 13,293,000 under Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) for the Laguindingan Airport Air Navigation System and Support Facilities Supply Project. This amount would be used for the acquisition of important airport systems such as an instrument landing system, Doppler VHF omni-directional radio system, airfield lighting system, air traffic control communication system, and an automated weather observation system.
The airport is expected to be finished by next year. Worth around PhP755.24 Million, the airport is already practically complete in terms of structure. However, it still lacks the necessary instruments and systems for proper operations.
The support of Korea in the development of the airport is further proof of its growing bilateral relations with the Philippines.
