Smart Gilas Philippines will be shooting it out against South Korea later at 5pm in the 2011 Jones Cup. The Filipino cagers are out for blood as it was the South Korean team that crushed their hopes in last year’s Asian Games quarterfinals.

In that game, the South Korean team totally burned Smart Gilas with its 48% field goal shooting, raining shots from everywhere in the court. The Philippines eventually had to settle then for a 66-74 score with South Korea moving forward against Japan.

Moving forward, the good news for Smart Gilas in this latest encounter is that Asi Taulava has already been confirmed fit for play despite being thrown out in the previous game against Malaysia. But Jayvee Casio still remains up in the air as a swollen knee may prevent him from playing in this crucial game.

I have to admit that my heart is so torn in this game. So I will try my best to root for both teams (if that is even possible). I’ll be watching the live broadcast of the game later at 5pm via AKTV on IBC 13.

Thanks to Smart Gilas Basketball for the photo.

South Korea just won this game against Smart Gilas, 78-70. Happy but sad at the same time. Smart Gilas did better this time around though. ^^
