Ahn Chi-woon, a distinguished professor and theater critic from the Theater Department of Hoseo University, will be among the luminaries present in the 1st Philippine International University Theater Festival to be held at Miriam College on July 18 to 20. With the theme: “Strengthening University Theater: Cultural Traditions Enriching Contemporary Theater”, this event will feature workshops, round-table discussions, demonstrations, and performances.
Chi-woon is part of a group of theater critics who fostered a paradigm shift in Korean theater criticism back in the 1980s. Together with other contemporaries, they veered away from focusing mainly on literature to theatricality, and from interpretation towards performance aesthetics. She will join delegates from 17 other regions all over the world in what could be considered as the biggest local event in university theater for a while.
