The ASEAN-Korea Centre is inviting young artists from universities in ASEAN countries like the Philippines to join the ASEAN-Korea Multimedia Competition. This is actually a very exciting contest as it promotes a modern and contemporary global perspective towards the ASEAN region. It also aims to create more cultural exchange between the ASEAN and Korean youth through the use of new media. This is to challenge the stereotyped traditional ASEAN imagery and misconceptions that litter the cultural landscape. This ambitious objective is captured in the theme for the contest – “Future Image” – which brings to mind various aspects of the new ASEAN identity.
There will be two categories for this multimedia contest: digital media arts/photography and moving image. Entries may be submitted from April 4 to May 31. Winners from ASEAN states will not only receive cash prizes but will also be invited to Seoul for the awarding ceremony and a workshop. On a side note, Nassier Nash Anggahan from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines was one of the two top winners in the Digital Media Arts Category last year while Jophel Botero Ybiosa from the same university was the top winner in the Photography Category the year before that.
