Every April 14, single-unattached-and-absolutely-available Koreans gather to mark Black Day. This is by wearing dark clothing and gathering together in restaurants to eat Jjajangmyeon (짜장면), a Chinese-Korean black noodle dish. It’s supposed to be a day commiserating being single by being with fellow loveless folk and hoping for a better love life the next year. This is juxtaposed with White Day (when Korean men give chocolates to the Korean girls who gave them gifts during Valentine’s Day).
I’ve been technically single for my whole life (MUs, flings, and are-we-or-aren’t-we’s aside). But for me, Black Day is definitely a happy day since Jjajangmyeon happens to be my favorite noodle dish! Even instant Jjajangmyeon tastes great to me! Ha ha ha! (^~^)
