After watching the Super Junior Super Show 3 at Araneta Coliseum last Saturday, February 26 – I realized that I had probably just seen the best concert ever. It was Octoberfest, Cirque du Soleil, Broadway, Disneyland & Cannes in one super show! Indie cred aside, Super Junior is not just good but great. Really. Seriously. Truly. Madly. Deeply.

Here are my favorite moments from the show:

10. Oh! My Goodness, it’s TRAX!
Everyone knows that my musical tastes are Korean indie at heart (at least I keep telling myself while listening to Super Junior everyday) so I was blown away when TRAX emerged as the guest performer and took control of center stage. This would have been ranked much higher if only Siwon played the drums (he’s done this before for the band) and Henry played violin with TRAX instead of the anonymous guest musicians.

9. Delicious Mascot Party
I’m a sucker for silly but cute antics. And this was the perfect example of that. Dressed as crazy food mascots, Super Junior performed “Cooking Cooking!”(technically, they just swayed along since the costumes were cumbersome) My favorite would have to be Eunhyuk’s squid mascot that was so elaborate he had a hard time removing it after everyone else had taken off their costumes.

8. Hospital Aquarium Video
Several videos served as transitions throughout the show. But this video takes the Cannes. In this short masterpiece, a sick girl peers sadly at a fish bowl on her birthday. The Super Junior members see this and decide to give her the stuffed toys  that they usually get from fans. The video ends with the Super Junior members turning the sick room into a virtual aquarium through a projector. Beautifully crafted, the video was such a delight to watch – it could have been a CF. Too bad, I can’t seem to find a copy anywhere.

7. Ryeowook & Sungmin’s Love Song
Ryewook’s powerful yet delicate vocals were in full force singing “One Fine Spring Day (븜닐)” as Sungmin deftly accompanied him on guitar. I couldn’t help but sing along.

6. In Praise of Siwon’s Praise
In Super Show 2, Siwon singing “Who I Am” was undeniably my favorite moment. It was inspiring and uplifting in a totally honest and touching way. This year, my super bias doesn’t disappoint with the Christian song, “Looking For The Day”. It’s not as thought provoking and heart-wrenching as “Who I Am” but it is still a great song to glorify God who makes our lives super.

5. No Other Balloon Flying
Although the concert opened with Leeteuk flying in the air thru wires, this was the perfect usage of that technique in the performance. Attached with balloons, Sungmin and Leeteuk were lifted in the air by wires as they threw confetti from a basket – this beautiful sequence reminded me so much of Cirque du Soleil.

4. Lady Hee Hee, Shinyonce Poker Face-Off
The incredible Lady Hee Hee’s “Poker Face” is taken to another level in a showdown with Shinyonce! Shindong, Donghae and Eunhyuk perform “Single Ladies” in a hilarious set that culminates in a dance and song battle of Beyonce’s hit “Crazy In Love”.

3. Justin Bieber Rock
Henry, a classically trained pianist and violinist, shows Justin Bieber how to rock his music. Starting with a classical ballad rendition of “Baby” into a full R&B performance that made me wonder “why the hell can’t Justin Bieber be THIS good?

2. Kangin’s Invisible Presence
As Super Junior members played invisible instruments in sync with the music, projected images of Kangin appeared on a silk screen in front of them – creating the illusion that he is with them. The performance culminates in a video of Kangin blowing confetti to the crowd as a rain of confetti falls dramatically on everyone. I loved the metaphor of being invisible yet still being there that captured the essence of Kangin’s leave from the group.

1. Eunhyuk, Leeteuk & Siwon Up Close
This proved that SVIP Right was the right name and the right choice. I was standing really~~~ close to the stage when Eunhyuk then Siwon (^^), and later on Leeteuk jumped to a slightly elevated platform that made them within the reach of ELFs. The barricades in our area were toppled as I realized how strong fan girls can be.

Thanks to , , , , , , , and for the videos.
