“My current favorite American artist is Korean.”
This was what I wrote when I posted the music video for “That Girl” by David Choi on my Facebook profile. I got a copy of his album through iTunes HERE and this song is currently on auto-repeat on my iPod.
Although David has already had two major album releases, “Only You” and “By My Side“, his popularity remains primarily based on his strong YouTube following. With music that is more Western rather than Korean, his sound is reminiscent of acts like Jason Mraz and Augustana. Through original songs and covers of popular mellow and acoustic rock songs, he has established himself as one of the most popular and most subscribed to musician on YouTube.
But less you dismiss this smooth crooner as just another of those dime-a-dozen YouTube sensations, David Choi has actually won David Bowie’s Mash-Up Contest and the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for Teens.
And even if David Choi actually has the skill to play the guitar, banjo, piano, violin, and ukulele (Now, that’s a one-man band!), his most amazing instrument remains his God-given pipes with a voice like melted butter. Coupled with his talent for writing his own songs, this guy is just too darn good!
Thanks to davidchoimusic for the video.
