The Korean boy band Super Junior took home the ASAP Pop Viewers Choice Award for the Pop K-Pop Category (which is quite a redundant term) in the live broadcast of the popular weekend noontime concert show on ABS-CBN2 yesterday, November 21. This was based on SMS votes from viewers of the show.
It wasn’t really much of a tight competition since the group went up against the Wonder Girls, 2NE1, and One Way. I really expected them to have this in the bag because Super Junior has one of the strongest and most organized fan following in the country. This is quite obvious in the percentage of the votes garnered by each act as shown below.
Super Junior – 60.61%
Wonder Girls – 15.25%
2NE1 – 12.99%
One Way – 10.16%
In any case, I’m glad to see that K-Pop had its own category in the ASAP Pop Viewers Choice Awards this year. I’m also happy that One Way (which isn’t as mainstream as Super Junior also got respectable votes). Here’s to looking forward to next year’s awards!
