As part of his 10-day visit to the Philippines, Rain is shooting parts of his upcoming K-Drama Runaway in and out of Manila.
Runaway is a spy action-thriller that marks the return of Rain to the K-Drama genre after A Love To Kill aired 5 years ago. In Runaway, Rain plays a fugitive on the run as a fortune that has disappeared 60 years ago finally resurfaces. Actress Lee Na-Young plays opposite him as a detective who chases him all over Asia.
Manila is one of 8 cities used as locations for the K-Drama, which includes Tokyo, Macau, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. This is Rain’s last leg of shoots for the K-Drama before he finally returns to Korea either on September 15th or 16th. This is quite a tight schedule as the drama is tentatively set to airing this September.
The local shoot for Runaway is being co-produced by TV5 (who is also a co-producer of Rain’s Intensity Concert). One of the biggest local production companies, Unitel Pictures, is also participating in the project.
This is definitely good news for the Philippines as it makes the country more attractive as a viable location for Korean productions in the future. The last Korean production in the country that I remember was FT Island’s shoot in Cebu a year ago.
