It seems to be a day for the local airing of new K-Dramas. While GMA7 begins the local broadcast of East Of Eden tonight as I mentioned HERE, ABS-CBN also started the local airing of He’s Beautiful earlier at 5:30 to 6:00pm.

He’s Beautiful (the international title of the idol-drama You’re Beautiful) stars Jang Geun-Seuk, Park Shin-Hye, Lee Hong-Ki, and Jung Yong-Hwa as members of the all-male musical band A.N.JELL. But the twist is that Park Shin-Hye is actually a girl pretending to be a guy to replace his twin brother who should have been the original member of the band.

Anticipation for this drama has been quite high. Fans have been talking about its local airing all over the web even before ABS-CBN formally acquired the rights to the K-Drama. In fact, the Korean OST for He’s Beautiful was released as early as April of this year – which is practically 4 months before the official broadcast of the K-Drama locally.

My predictions – this is definitely going to be a hit! That is, unless local fans get turned off by Jang Geun-Seuk’s crazy “band fashion” which happens to extend to his real style sense as well.

Thanks to ABS-CBN for the photo.

He’s Beautiful is one of the highest TV ratings in S.Korea last year. Sana mag hit din siya dito sa Pinas despite the timeslot. Much better sana pag nasa 9-10pm slot siya.

    • joon25 says:

Actually, it didn’t really have high ratings in South Korea. It’s average rating was around 10% – which isn’t really a hit if compared to real high-rating dramas like Kim Sam-Soon at around 50% or at least Coffee Prince at 24%.

A high-rating drama in Korea normally falls in the 20% and above range. But what made He’s Beautiful a success was its solid following of loyal fans. They were a small group but they were extremely dedicated. That’s why it became an “idol” drama and made commercial stars of Jang Geun-Seuk and Park Shin-Hye. Plus it became very popular online as well.

In fairness to He’s Beautiful, its timeslot in Korea had it fighting against Iris which was an extremely high-budgeted, high-profile action drama with ratings of around 20% to 30%.

By the way, I share your concern regarding the timeslot. I was actually quite surprised that they put it in the Hapontastic line-up. I thought it was going to be included in the Primetime Bida line-up.

      😦

i agree. the rating of this in korea wasn’t that high coz of the same timeslot with IRIS. But the response of other asian countries to this drama was amazing. The untiring promotion of the casts esp. JGS contributed to the it’s success. Hopefully samething will happen here in the Phil. and it’s also my wish that the mngt of ABS CBN will change it’s timeslot just like what they did to BOF.

    • Jaypee says:

yup sana nga nasa timeslot na lang ni Kristine yung “He’s Beautiful” but syempre mas priority ng ABS-CBN ang sarili nilang gawa.. =)

i agree n ilipat sya ng timeslot kung saan mas marami mkakanood, khit itapat sya s east of eden, may laban toh!

i am still hoping that the ABS-CBN management will change the time-slot of He’s beautiful..d q kc napapanood..ang uwian namin gabi na..kakainis..

    • joon25 says:

That’s the problem with the Hapontastic timeslot. A lot of people are still at work or in school during that time. Hence the lower ratings. Most of the viewers are the stay-at-home moms. I really wish ABS-CBN reconsiders the He’s Beautiful timeslot. 🙂

Yeah I hope they’d change the time slot.. naaawa kasi ako sa cuzin ko, eh big fan sya ni Jeremy… so ako nakakanuod sa hapon sya hndi, though we’ve seen it like 4 times na on DVD… hehehe…. iba kasi pag dubbed na, kaso thier voices seem not fit for them.. sana yung boses ni jeremy yun na lang ginamit for sukkie, kasi mas malaki at mas buo.. hehehe…

    • joon25 says:

I’ve seen the original Korean as well so I know what you mean sukkie10. The reason why I like to watch the Tagalog version as well is because the writers sometimes inject distinct Filipino touches to the dialogue. Ha ha ha! And yes, sometimes the voices don’t match at all. 🙂

  7. ano na ba ang new time slot ng hes beautiful bkas(september28 2010)

I’m always watching He’s Beautiful here in Tagum, Davao but i noticed that there are cuts every time it is aired. The time is also shortened. Please i beg you, don’t cut some of the scenes. I’m a big fan of He’s beautiful and every scene or detail is important for me. Pleaseee. thank you.

  10. ARLENE says:

  11. junne Lee says:

hey but here in the Philippines it is really a big hit!

    • joon says:

Not as big as what it could have been though. He’s Beautiful started out really strong (even reaching #1 at one point) but because of the poor choice in schedules and the constant changing of timeslots – it’s ratings has dipped.

To think that this could have been a really BIG hit. Aaaargh…

      🙂
