Local Smile Honey fans have been wondering where they can find a copy of Smile Honey. It’s pretty hard to order online since even YesAsia only has the Smile You OST available. Anyway, being the resourceful Pinoy that she is – my mom decided to visit the local Dibidi Shop in front of Waltermart Dasmarinas Cavite and got a DVD copy for only Php50.
She found a relatively good copy of Smile Honey with hard subs from Haru-Haru (Hard subs means you can’t turn it off or remove the subtitles). I have been watching Smile Honey since the weekend. Currently, I am at episode 40 out of 45. So far, I’ve only seen 1 episode with bad subtitles. I understand a bit of basic Korean and it was quite obvious that the translator for that episode did a literal translation of the dialogue. Otherwise, I’ve been smiling since the weekend on my Smile Honey marathon.
But before my blog gets shut down by the local Anti-Piracy Board (joke), let me just note to everyone that buying the DVD does not mean that we stopped watching the Filipino dubbed version on TV5. I think there are some touches that local writers did to the script which add flavor to the storytelling of Smile Honey. Of course, I still prefer the original Korean version since there are things that sometimes get lost in translation.
So let me repeat: I am not endorsing piracy. I just want more fans for the show and it’s practically impossible to get a copy of the drama locally. Get a copy of Smile Honey if you want from the local Dibidi shop (for replay after the show has ended on TV) but please keep watching it on TV5, where it airs every Monday to Saturday at 1:15pm. It’s the best way to show our support for the K-Drama and to encourage local TV networks to keep importing good K-Dramas in the Philippines.
