SS501 made one of the biggest entries in the Philippines’ MYX Music Chart this week with their video for “Love Like This”.

“Love Like This” follows the Korean boy band mold for songs. It isn’t ground-breaking but it certainly follows the formula that makes songs like this really popular. The beat and harmony is quite infectious in its simplicity. I’ve noticed that most of Korean music, including K-Pop and K-Rock, usually uses a lot of synthesized sounds. In “Love Like This”, the synthesizers add a touch of color to the melody to make it even more memorable.

Meanwhile, the music video also follows the elements for successful K-Pop boy band videos. It features SS501 performing with stylized vignettes of individual members singing in between. But what I really like is the build-up of the choreography. It starts off with more smooth and soft moves throughout the initial stanzas of the song then becomes more crisp and powerful during the chorus.

The only thing I wish that was pushed more is the fluorescent light show. It’s a bit bland to begin with since it’s plain white then just does repetitive blinking all throughout. It’s barely saved by the curved stylized architecture of the ceiling in the video.

Title: “Love Like This”
Album: Rebirth
Artist: SS501
Genre: K-Pop

Thanks to shirbogirl for the video. >:)
