The Korean Drama “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho” won the Best Foreign Soap Opera Award in the 8th USTv Awards given out last Feb. 20 at the University of Sto. Tomas Medicine Auditorium. This drama was dubbed and aired by ABS-CBN2 and gained quite a strong following. Starring Lee Seung-Gi and Shin Min-Ah, this drama is about a man who meets and eventually falls in love with a mythical nine-tailed fox. This is on my list of drama favorites of all time. The USTv Awards has grown in prestige throughout the years as it has consistently awarded television programs that showcase significant content and Catholic values. Winners are chosen based on student votes. This year, around 7000 randomly selected students participated in the selection process. The results were compiled and interpreted by the UST Social Research Center. The results were later on reviewed and confirmed by a panel composed mainly of students and chaired by media experts.
Just one more thing though, I wish USTv would change the name of the category. “Soap opera” is such a dated term that doesn’t seem to capture the essence of the shows it confers the award on anymore.
